Today's vehicles in Sierra Leone are so advanced in computer systems that it can be impossible for a car owner to identify a problem... until the car won't start. When it comes to an automobile that won't start, a problem with the electrical system, such as an aged car battery, is the most common cause. Worst of all, any breakdown caused by an electrical grid failure is always inconvenient and frequently necessitates a call for a restart or a tow. This may have been avoided with some preventative maintenance. Continue reading to discover more about your vehicle's battery bank and electrical system, as well as how to maintain it.
Signs of a disturbed Car Battery and Electrical system:
If you notice any of the following, you'll require a new battery or an electrical system repair:
- For example, the car won't start, the engine sounds feeble when turned over, or you're having trouble cranking it.
- The dashboard and interior lights are not working properly.
- When traveling slowly or idling at night, you may notice dim brake lights and headlights.
- When you turn on the AC or heater blower, nothing happens.
- A burning smell emanates from the electrical or plastic insulation. Note: If this occurs, please contact us as soon as possible to make a reservation to have the electrical system inspected.
Steps to Maintain a Car's Electrical System:
To keep your vehicle's electrical system in proper working order, follow these guidelines:
- Assess and cleanse the battery and its wires regularly. If you've ever peered under your car's hood, you may have observed some white construct (or rust) around the battery's posts and cables. It's normal, but the battery should be cleared of rust. To remove the corrosion, you can use specific battery cleaning chemicals. You can also make your bicarbonate and water solution. The steps for cleaning the battery are straightforward.
- Remove positive and negative terminals from the posts.
- Using a wire brush, clean the rust from the terminals and post after applying the cleaning fluid to them.
- Use water to rinse the cleaning fluid from the terminals and posts.
- Starting from the positive terminal first, reconnect the battery from its posts.
- Examine the drive belt for symptoms of cracks, dryness, or glazing. While you're inspecting the drive belt, double-check that the tension is correct. Don't be concerned with questions like, where the drive belt is? How much strain should it have? When you bring your automobile in for routine maintenance, we'll perform a complete inspection. Then, we'll let you know if any repair or replacement is required.
- Before the battery dies and the engine won't start, be proactive and replace it. The battery in your vehicle is expected to last approximately 3 to 5 years.
- When you switch off your automobile, make sure the lights, radio, AC, or heater are all turned off as well. When you start the vehicle, these components strain the battery.
